You lost? The ghost you see is not a ghost but a conglomerate of thousands of nanomachines flying in the air. Now you remember Billy Hope? Or the Wallrider? Or the Ghost maybe? Yeah, same person, he succeeded the experiment and was able to control the nanomachines. The patients you see in the Asylum, the Variants, if they don't die due to the machine, they become significantly weirder as you saw and for some (the big guys) significantly more violent are they not? But in order for someone to actually manage that, they had to witness enough horrors and survive thus we arrive to the Morphogenic Program which is the weird screen showing of those Shrink Pictures with the distorted sound.īasically Murkoff re-opened the Asylum, got a bunch of "useless humans nobody cared about" or rather a bunch of guinea pigs, and they threw everyone into the machine (the bubble thingy at the end of the game) to search for the One. And it would be mind-controlled through lucid dreaming kinda. They had this idea of nanotechnology who could, if I remember correctly, heal the body or something like that or at least make you very OP. But their most beloved project? The Morphogenic Engine or The Billy Project you could say or the "Fucking Ghost Trying To Kill Me". What did Murkoff you might ask? Simple enough: experimentations on humans. Now in the asylum you have: the big baddies (Doctor Tragger, Piggy Piggy Walker and so on) which were originally really fucked up and you have the random dudes called "Variants" (which technically also include the big guys) who are patients usually not evil initially but what Murkoff did transformed a bunch into killing machine (though note that I'd say 80% of the Variants never actually tried to kill you). And you know cause you've had the bad idea to go in there. They are corporate people who values wealth over health if you know what I mean. Now the main point is: Murkoff are the very bad guys. Outlast 1: Mount Massive Asylum was once used for I forgot what but then it closed and a company called Murkoff bought it back. I'll make it quick because Jesus Christ it would take to long otherwise.
